About the stoma and internal pouch care service

Our stoma and internal pouch care team look after you if you have a stoma, an internal pouch, or need support with enterocutaneous fistula management, complications management, irrigation and distal feeding. We offer long-term support if you live in Harrow, Brent and Ealing.

We lead on nursing research and development and are well published both nationally and internationally.

Our team is mainly based at St Mark's Hospital. However, we also provide care from the Wembley Centre for Health and Care.

We provide care for the following conditions:

  • inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)
  • bowel cancer
  • some bowel conditions
  • urinary cancer
  • some urinary conditions

Stoma and internal pouch care research

We take part in research to help us develop our protocols, pathways, guidelines. This includes working with other services and medical device trials.

How to refer to the stoma and internal pouch care team

We accept referrals from:

  • GPs
  • consultants
  • stoma care nurses
  • district nurses
  • any member of local or national community teams who care for stoma patients.

Your referral should include patient's:

  • full past medical history
  • full past surgical history
  • medications list
  • relevant investigations
