Pay for your NHS care as an overseas visitor

Pay for your NHS treatment online

Have your invoice number ready. We sent it to you by email or letter.

Use your NHS number if you'd like to make a deposit and you don't have an invoice number.

Check your email address

Please make sure your email address is correct when you pay for your overseas visitor NHS treatment.

We will:

  • send your receipt to the email you gave during payment
  • ask for your email if you speak to us about your payment.

Pay for your NHS care as soon as possible

Please pay your invoice as soon as you get it.

You will usually pay the full cost of treatment first, unless your doctor or nurse says your care is urgent.

Speak to us if you have any financial difficulties. We can discuss your payment options, which could include a repayment plan.

In most cases you have two months to pay.

Unpaid NHS charges can affect your immigration status

Your medical debt could affect any future immigration applications.

We will report you to the Home Office if:

  • your debt is more than £500 and
  • do not pay for your care within two months.

We do not share any information about your health or treatment with the Home Office.

Keep your payment receipts for any future immigration checks.

Immigration Rules (paragraphs 320(22), 322(12), and 3.14 of Appendix V) explain how unpaid charges can affect your application.
