Margaret’s mountain of wool keep babies snug

Margaret Francis put her knitting skills to good use during lockdown by making comfort blankets, hats and jackets for babies in Northwick Park’s Neonatal Unit.

The 74-year-old said: “I’ve knitted since I was a teenager and accumulated a mountain of wool from spare balls of yarn so it’s good to find some use for it.”

Margaret’s first attempt at knitting a jumper for a school holiday was less than successful - it shrank in the wash - but after 50 years she is a nimble-fingered adept of every stich from the Fisherman’s Rib and Bobble to the Tricot and Herringbone.

“I enjoy knitting and time just flies when I pick up my needles.”
