About acute medicine

Our acute medicine team assess, diagnose and treat you if you are seriously (or acutely) unwell and have been referred to us as an emergency. You might come to us from:

  • an Urgent Care Centre (UCC)
  • one of our Emergency Departments
  • your GP
  • an Ambulatory Care Unit
  • another LNWH service
  • another Trust.

Depending on what care you need, you may be:

  • admitted to a short stay area for up to 72 hours
  • admitted to a long stay specialty medicine bed
  • referred to Ambulatory Care for further treatment
  • discharged home.

Our team includes three dedicated consultants who work closely with other healthcare professionals, including junior doctors and nurses.
