£7m government grant to bring ground-breaking treatments to NW London

London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust has secured £7million to give patients earlier access to new ground-breaking treatments.

The investment by the UK government will create a Commercial Research Delivery Centre headquartered at Northwick Park Hospital to strengthen access to clinical trials and innovative therapies across North West London.

LNWH will host a central hub for the new centre, coordinating activity across its three hospitals and supporting increased delivery of clinical trials in the community through partnership with five other local healthcare organisations; Hillingdon hospital, Ealing GP Federation, The Confederation Hillingdon CIC, Belmont GP Centre and Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust.

The new centre will work closely with local communities across North West London, ensuring treatment-enhancing care is tailored to the needs of local people and easily accessible.

Work will be mapped to national priorities and focus on disease areas with high prevalence in North West London and where our local demographics are under-represented in research including Cardiology, Diabetes, Respiratory, Infectious Diseases, Cancer, Ophthalmology and Bowel diseases.

Christiana Dinah, Director of the North West London Commercial Research Delivery Centre and Director of Research and Innovation at LNWH said:

“This is fantastic news for the people of North West London.

“Uniquely positioned as a diverse region of over 3 million people, we will leverage our existing strong partnerships with local healthcare organisations, research infrastructure across the country and industry while building new relationships to further increase access to innovative therapies and improve the health and wealth of people in North West London and beyond.”

Part of a £400million government investment to create 18 new clinical trial hubs across the UK to accelerate research, it is the first major public-private collaboration of its scale in the world.

By streamlining processes, new treatments will move more swiftly from labs to wards, providing patients with faster access to cutting-edge treatments.
