Lillian’s heartfelt painting
The Fernandes family’s roots run deep at Northwick Park.
Lillian Fernandes used to work as a midwife at the hospital, while husband Arthur was Head of Transport and Portering.
“I’ve always had a lot of love for the place,” said Lillian whose children were born at Northwick Park.
Lillian was inspired to paint a picture called The Beating Heart which is now on show in the hospital.
I was accompanying my daughter to a hospital appointment when I saw a large tree trunk on the site which had a heart carved into it. It just summed up how I felt about the hospital and NHS.”
The Beating Heart is hung in the corridor opposite St Mark’s Tea Bar.
