Call for greater diversity in drug trials
A new initiative encouraging a greater diversity of people to take part in clinical trials has been launched.
The Advancing Inclusive Research Site Alliance (AIRSA) acknowledges the lack of diversity in trials can hinder the development of new therapies.
Dr Suki Balendra, Director of the North-West London Clinical Trials Alliance which is part of AIRSA, said: “Disease and illness do not discriminate, but our age, race and ethnicity do play a part in determining how conditions affect us.
“The lack of diversity in trials is a real obstacle to understanding the safety and efficacy of novel therapies across different populations.”
