Horses graze on hospital green
Police horses Quattro and Valiant took a break from attending football matches and demos to visit staff at Northwick Park Hospital.
The pair enjoyed the pastoral delights of the hospital garden while staff came out to get a closer look.
The first letter of each horse’s name corresponds with the year they are bought into service and the horses undergo an 18 month training and probationary period.
Mounted police like Helen Welsh face equally rigorous training which involves 20 weeks mounted training including the pleasures of mucking out, grooming and foot care.
Helen Welsh said: “I’ve always like horses and it is a great way to interact with the public. People are always interested. Quattro is trained to take it all in his stride but we really enjoy the community visits to schools and hospitals.”
