Maxton hits a high note

Maxton Pitcher hit a high note after being honored by his medical society at the annual Primary Care Society for Gastroenterology.

The violin-playing gastroenterologist was awarded the Guts and Glory Award for his work during the pandemic at Northwick Park Hospital.

He caught the public eye after being filmed playing Ava Marie to A&E nurse Alicia Borja after she was discharged from hospital and later her colleague, Franco Palo.

Alicia’s discharge was a turning point for Northwick Park, which had been under intense media scrutiny as the first and hardest hit hospital during the first wave of the pandemic.

She presented Maxton with his award in the hospital’s Covid Memorial Garden and he duly serenaded her with a piece by Edward Elgar, in tribute to the name of the ward on which Alicia was treated.
