Shirlee’s shout out to volunteers

Shirlee Hunte oversees the recruitment and wellbeing of volunteers who work at the hospital trust.

Shirlee, who has clocked up more than 30 years of service with the NHS, has been with the trust since 2013.

She is the first of several staff we will be featuring as part of Black History Month.

Shirlee said: “I’ve managed the volunteer service for the past year eight years with the support of a small team of staff providing support to volunteers and staff.

“I’ve worked diligently to introduce and implement new work streams which have transformed the service, bringing it ‘back to life’ and raising its profile and that of volunteering while instilling values into working practices.

“Volunteer management can be incredibly rewarding but comes with its challenges. Nevertheless, I have the pleasure of working with some of the most devoted individuals I’ve ever come across and meet people from all walks of life.”
