Sickle cell public engagement event
LNWH is holding a public engagement event for patients, service users and other community members affected by sickle cell disease on 8 June.
Over the last year, the Trust has made significant improvements to its sickle cell service, including establishing a dedicated sickle cell admission area on its haematology ward, appointing a new sickle cell consultant and appointing a new sickle cell nurse consultant.
The team have also begun to provide the new, NICE-approved monoclonal antibody treatment Crizanlizumab.
However, the organisation wants to make additional, long term improvements to the service in partnership with patients and those who use the service.
Working in partnership with the Sickle Cell Society, LNWH will hold a public engagement event where the team will share proposals and listen to views from the public on how the service can be made better.
Chief Executive Pippa Nightingale said: “It’s vital that we offer truly high quality care and experience for people living with sickle cell in our communities. While we’ve made some important changes already, it’s now time we sit down with our patients and those who use the service to talk about their needs and how we can best meet them.
“I hope that many of our patients will join us for our engagement event to hear our suggestions and share their views.”
