‘Slow down and savour every day,’ says breast cancer survivor

A Kenton woman says the words ‘breast and ‘cancer’ shouldn’t be a cause of embarrassment among the Asian community after successfully battling the condition herself.

Anjali Raja said: “People shouldn’t be embarrassed to talk about this. It shouldn’t be a taboo subject and is a time when family and friends are more important than ever.”

The mother of two has produced a video charting her fight with cancer as well as highlighting the importance of remaining positive.

Anjali said: “I’ve always been a busy person but since my brush with cancer I’ve learned to slow down and savour every day. It really gave me a sense of perspective and what is important in life. We take so much for granted without appreciating it.”

She originally found a lump in her breast while stretching and quickly found herself being fast-tracked to Northwick Park Hospital’s new Breast Centre which treats hundreds of women a year.

“I can’t thank the team enough. They were patient, understanding and held my hand through the whole process including chemotherapy.

“I’d like to give something back now and use my experience to help others in some sort of voluntary support role. It is so important to have someone to talk to and know you aren’t alone.”
