Trust wins pastoral care award

The trust has been awarded a Pastoral Care Quality Award for its work supporting overseas nurses and midwives coming to work at the trust.

Nurses and midwives come from as far afield as the Philippines, India, the Caribbean and South Africa as part of the international recruitment programme together with capital nurse recruitment.

Cindy Marudamuthu Lead Nurse for Operational and Professional Standards at LNWH, said: “It’s a big decision to move to a different country and it is important we help them settle in and feel at home.

“We want to retain our nurses, help them grow in their career and them feel part of the LNWH family.”

Support starts when the nurses are still abroad when they are sent a  information and cultural awareness pack along with free flights and visas.

They are subsequently met at the airport and offered a range of practical and emotional support on arrival. This includes a dedicated support team as well as free onsite accommodation and food vouchers when they first start work

The hospital’s internal international recruitment team in Corporate Nursing has recruited 252 overseas nurses in the past year.

It has to meet a series of best practice standards which have been co-developed with regional and trust international recruitment leads and international nursing and midwifery associations.

Trusts receiving the award are reassessed every three years.
