About our orthodontic service
Orthodontics is dentistry concerned with the growth and development of teeth, jaws and face. We assess, diagnose and treat conditions to improve the appearance of teeth and bite function. The department is also a training institute for orthodontics.
Conditions cared for by orthodontics service
Our team care for a range of conditions:
Children (under 18 years of age)
- unerupted moderately-severely impacted teeth (that require surgical exposure and orthodontic alignment)
- moderate to severe hypodontia, requiring multidisciplinary input
- cleft palate
- dento-alveolar and facial trauma
- complex medical, social or learning needs, related to orthodontics
- interceptive orthopaedic treatment, indicated for secondary care
- severe and complex malocclusions, (including pathology such as supernumeraries), indicated for secondary care, including those requiring multidisciplinary input
Adult (18 years old and over)
- orthognathic treatment
- moderate to severe hypodontia
- unerupted moderately-severely impacted teeth (that require surgical exposure and orthodontic alignment)
- dento-alveolar and facial trauma

You will need a referral from a primary care orthodontic specialists or a dentist.
